Tributes and Condolences

31st Birthday  / Mom (Mother)
David: Today we planted another tree in your honor in Suisun. You would be so very proud of where it stands. Right at the end of the slough, by the basin where you fished as a kid. The view is wonderful and we will enjoy visiting this tree often. This makes the 5th tree planted in your honor. One in Andrews Park in Vacaville, where you crawdad fished in the creek and skateboarded in the park. Two at the Civic Center ponds where you and Grandma fished and you fed the ducks and geese. Two in Suisun, one of which did not make the winds and drought and this one today. You would be so proud of these trees and will be proud of the many to come. You planted so many gardens in your life, not only into the ground but in the lives you touched. Your heart and humor are missed greatly. I know you are here with me often, I can feel your touch, but I sure miss you still. You are in our hearts and we love you, Son.

WHAT A VERY HANDSOME MAN!  / SHARI, ANGEL MOM TO YANNICK WHITEHEAD (VISITOR)
I LOST MY SON APRIL 5, 2005 (YANNICK) AGE 16. I KNOW THE GRIEF, AND I PRAY THAT HIS LOVING MEMORY WILL HELP TO HEAL YOUR BROKEN HEART.

IN DAVID`S PRECIOUS MEMORY;

HAVE YOU EVER LOST A SON
WHO IS VERY CLOSE TO YOU
ONE YOU LOVE SO VERY MUCH
AND MISS HIM LIKE WE DO.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A HEARTACHE
OR EVER FELT THE PAIN
OR SHED THOSE BITTER TEARS
THAT DROP LIKE FALLING RAIN.
IF YOU EVER HAD THAT FEELING,
I PRAY YOU NEVER DO,
FOR WHEN GOD TAKES YOUR SON,
HE TAKES A PART OF YOU.
TO FAR AWAY TO TOUCH, TO CLOSE TO FORGET.

REST IN PEACE, SWEET MAN!
Condolances / Teresa Simon (Friend)
This is an exerpt from David's Guest Book on line through Vacaville Reporter. Teresa placed this shortly after David's Angel Date. David hung out with a group of young kids when we lived in Vacaville. When they weren't at our house, they were at Teresa's. Teresa is Paul Simon's mom, Paul was one of David's best buddies. They remained friends for years, until David moved to another state. They then kept in touch through David's sister.

"It was almost as if I lost one of my own. He was one of the boys who was always at my house when I lived in Vacaville. I watched him grow into a young man with all the others who were the group at my house. Dave came to see me a few years ago, and at first I was not sure who he was but looking further, I then saw the boyish grin. he had grown into a fine young man who was putting his life together. My prayers go to all his family and here is hoping that the family will band together and remember what life and death is all about.
Keep smiling Dave, it may help make others smile."

My Lady Vesta -
My heart aches for you. It is never easy to lose someone you love, especially someone close to you.

With God's help, you gave birth to David; you nutured him and watched him grow. You knew his challenges, his triumphs, his failures, his joy, his pain, his strengths, his weaknesses, his love, his despair, his courage, his persistence, his impatience, his temper, his struggle to identify himself and find his plaace in this world. You knew his Spirit and his Journey. As only a Mother can, you knew his inner core of his Being.

Know now that God has given him perfect healing of his body, mind & spirit - all the negatives are gone, all dependency, all short-comings, all pain, all struggle - it's over and done with. What remains is the love & beauty of David. He is with God. There are no more doubts, no more failures, no more anxiety...he knows, as God knows, the love he has been given & the love he has received. He knows and understands and can now truly appreciate his family, his life, his journey - he has reached his goal and in God's time, he will be with you again, in perfect bliss, joy, peace, happiness, in perfect love.

I know your family & extended family are in pain. We will miss David with ALL his strengths & with all his faults. But he has passed on a legacy both in our hearts & minds & spirits - and in our journey - an unfailing love and a persistent effort to achieve. His strong personality has left an imprint on everyone he knew in this life...he lives on in each of us and in his offspring - and he will be more than a memory - he will be a living part of our lives, waiting to greet each one he loved when we are able to oin with him again.

My prayers, my heart, my mind, my spirit are with you in your loss, your sorrow, your suffering and with you in your joy, your happiness, your blessing - knowing David's struggle is over and he is with God & at peace.

I love you, My Lady Vesta - my 'more-that-asister', my true friend,
Kathy
What a lovely tribute to David!  / Cathy Seehuetter (Vesta's friend )
Vesta,   I enjoyed reading about your handsome son, David's life, which he obviously loved in his short years.  This is a wonderful website and beautiful tribute to a son you obviously loved so much.  I know how much it hurts to have lost him; even 12 years later, I ache for my daughter Nina.

Bless you for all you do for your "compassionate friends",

Hugs,
Cathy

2007 Birthday tree  / Vesta Thompson (Mother)
We planted our first tree in Suisun on April 13, 2007. The newspaper article and pictures are in the "Memorial Tree" album.
This tree is planted in a small park at the entrance to Suisun Old Town, just off the exit ramp from Highway 12. In the back ground of the location you will see the harbor for Suisun. It is in this waterway (well before its now pristene appearance) that David spent his younger days exploring, fishing, swimming, and just plain making mischief. He would often get into trouble with officials by jumping off the old Sheldon docks into the slough with his buddies. He would come home muddy and smelly from a day's exploration. I would have to hose him off outside before he could shower in the house. The Suisun Mud has an odor all its own. David's Grandma Phyllis took him on many fishing jaunts all over the harbor area (well before there was the beautiful access granted today). Grandma would relate that David spent more time exploring the water and marsh than really tending to his pole.

Suisun City held a special place in David's heart because so many good memories were made here by him. Those memories started as described above, to all his little league games, to his attendance at both elementary schools, to his late teen years that were spent in our house on Suisun Street. His barbeques and parties were enjoyed by friends, family, and whoever showed up. He loved the music in the park events, the 4th of July events, and all other special events the city hosted. David & his friends would often be found sitting on the roof of the back porch (his room was upstairs with a large window leading to this area), sipping their drinks and enjoying their music.

The Council members present at this planting became aware of who David was when they met Rob & I. They realized that they did know him because of his relationship to us and all the events we attended and helped with. David had a way of letting people know he was around, he was always ready to lend a helping hand in whatever needing done. He was the first one up a tree to lay a cable or hang a sign, or up on a roof to do the same.

We will be planting more trees at this location, as many as the leaders will allow. Over the years they want all the trees replaced and we will be more than happy to do this in David's memory. So watch the Memorial Trees album for more entries with each Birthday and Angel Day we celebrate in the future.  Mom Close

David Thompson
April 13, 1977 – August 27, 2005
30 this year

I remember when you were born,
How happy I was:
To look into your sweet face,
At you looking back at me
With those big blue eyes,
To feel your tiny hand
Wrapped around my finger,
To hold your small self in my arms.

Then I watched you grow
And I was filled with pride
And delight by your first words,
First steps, first everything.

When a new Father came into your life
I watched you two come to know each other
And grow together in your love.
We became a new family.

We watched your baseball games,
Your skateboard performances,
Your bike stunts
Your enjoyment of the outdoors
And family trips taken.

I watched as your daughter
Entered this world.
I cried at the look on your face
When you first saw her.
I watched you holding her
With all the love a Father can feel
And my heart filled at
Your pride in your own first.

David, You warmed our hearts
And made us laugh,
You brought joy and love,
You made life more fun.

Now we are older and you are not.
But nothing can ever change
How much you mean to us.
We love that you
Will always be
Our Son.

Happy Birthday David
