This memorial website was created in memory of our beloved son, David (Wilson)Thompson who was born in Louisiana on April 13, 1977 and passed away in Walnut Creek, California on August 27, 2005 (His Angel Date) at the age of 28. We will remember and love him forever.
David entered this life with a look of wonderment and curiosity for this new world. Looking around with those large blue eyes, David met my eyes with an instant bonding and understanding of who he was. His beauty at birth was astounding; his lovely peaches and cream coloring, his face framed by curling strawberry blond hair and with those bright blue eyes looking at all around him.
As a child he looked at everything as a challenge and adventure. David ran rather than walked, and never stopped. He could fall asleep anywhere, but when awake played hard. David's bike and skateboard became appendages of his body. Once he held a baseball bat he was hooked. David's ball playing days started even before he could join T-ball in little league, and continued on until Babe Ruth league. David also loved high places, climbing trees, cliffs, and then repelling down them with joy. David enjoyed cooking, fishing, swimming, boating, camping and hiking. The family camping trips and outings to sights around the Northern California area were a great deal of fun for him.
As a husband and father, his enjoyment of his young blended family was apparent in all he did with and for them. When he entered into his marriage it was as step-father to two little girls that he quickly took into his heart, and he loved, cherished and cared for them even beyond the breakup of that marriage. I had the privilege of being present upon the birth of David's daughter, Savannah. To see the look of wonderment on his face when he first saw Savannah was heartwarming and completed the circle of life that began upon his birth. David would hold Savannah so tenderly and loved falling asleep with her on his chest, feeling her little heartbeat, smelling her sweet smell, and holding her little body in place. Savannah was the joy of his life, he would hold her as often as he could and was always watching over her as she slept or played. He continues to watch over as her personal angel.
David decided to return to his family in California to be near us again and to make a new start. His return home was a celebration in itself for all of us. It was like having our sunshine and joy back with us.
David's miraculous rediscovery of his sweetheart, Sarah, and their luck in being able to pick up the relationship they once had, and to be able to prepare to take it to the next step was great. The unconditional love, trust, and respect David received from Sarah was something he had not experienced for a long time. David would often get this special look on his face when Sarah would do or say something that touched him deeply. It was a pleasure to see that David had found someone who accepted him and loved him as he was. With Joshua, Sarah's son, there was an instant bond and their play was great to watch.
David didn't always make good choices in his life, but he survived each challenge and moved on successfully, with the lessons learned, with the strength of character those experiences gave him. In David's life, he wore many hats: from sales (Kirby vacuums, RVs, cars)(could sell ice to eskimos), roofing (loved swinging on ropes on church roofs especially), landscaping (loved creating beautiful things), and construction (could build anything). But David's real joy was cooking and he went into that field with every thing he had. He loved showing off his skills and could really put wonderful meals together. He enjoyed working in the kitchen with his girls, making this another fun thing to do.
David's excitement in riding Sarah's Harley Sportster was a dream come true for him. He loved polishing it and making it shine. He was so proud to ride it with Sarah behind him, her arms around his body. He was just as proud when she drove and he could put his arms around her. David had become addicted to cycles at an early age when riding with his father on his Honda or when riding his battery powered Harley up and down the sidewalk.
David brought alot of joy and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. He was always there for a hand up and was the first to offer. All who knew him loved him and enjoyed his presence. David lit up a room when he entered it and the crowd usually surrounded him. His humor brightened everyone's day, even strangers. David was a hero to many and continues to be so by making the decision to donate his organs so that others could live on. See legacy for detail regarding this donation.
So Please, take the time to go through this memorial book, look at the pictures, read the tributes and contributions from others, check out the memorials put in place in his name, put some in yourselves and share them with us, and please share your stories of and with David so that we all may enjoy them. We will always remember David with this sharing.
Create a living tribute to David by planting a tree in your area. Each tree planted for him goes on to live hundreds of years and is a living memorial to him. You don't have to put a plaque on it, just knowing it is there is enough for anyone. Donate your time with a child or teen in trouble in his name. Help someone learn to read. Do what you can to help "pass it on" for David, since he can't do it for himself. Share with us in his memory book so we can enjoy what you have done.
Thanks to all of you for any contributions: written memories, pictures, etc. from his Mom, author of this site and who misses him so badly.
